Hose, Spooling & Piping

A spool is an assembly of pipe and associated components that can be pre-fabricated in the workshop for future installation and then shipped to site for assembling. A pipe spool drawing acts as a guide to Pipe fitters, plumbers, fitters & install teams to understand what they are encountering. A pipe is split into different sections, called spools.

Piping & spooling can be manufactured in a number of different materials depending on the application including Stainless Steel, Mild Steel, HDPE, Alloys and PVC. Where piping needs to fit within a specific area and there is no tolerance to expand and contract, steel piping including; Stainless Steel Piping, Rubber Lined Pipe spools, mild steel spooling & carbon steel piping are common items in many process plants. Where piping can expand and contract even ever so slightly often High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) spooling is used. HDPE Piping is a good option for a number of applications due to its corrosion, chemical resistance and ease to work with. Custom HDPE Spools are very common in chemical plants and highly corrosive areas. The main limitation of HDPE piping is in high pressure applications where a bend is required or offtakes come off that don’t suit pre-engineered butt-weld fittings.
