How Sediment Tanks Work?

Sediment tanks are essential components in water and wastewater treatment processes. Their primary function is to remove suspended particles by allowing them to settle at the bottom of the tank as water flows slowly through.

1. Water with suspended solids flows into the tank.
2. As the water moves slowly through the tank, gravity causes the suspended particles to settle at the bottom.
3. These settled particles form a layer of sludge at the bottom of the tank.
4. The cleaner water, now with fewer suspended particles, exits the tank from the top.
5. The accumulated sludge is periodically removed from the bottom of the tank.
